Have duty today. I relieved Knapp. He stuck around until I was in uniform, gave him a hard time about too. I asked him if he were planning to take a knap before hitting the road, he lives in Hemet so this was an actual question. I told him not to wait for me, I have all day to get dressed. Technically that's untrue but since we won't be calling away any emergenecy drills I don't think there is any thing to worry about.
He informed me that we still don't have any volunteers to go to the island next week to keep the boats up for 3rd phase during their FTX phase. In fact he doesn't remember them coming back to the shop after GMT. I wasn't the least suprised about the latter bit of info. When the evening crew got to the shop on Friday their were still 5 boats and a Zodiac in the water. Since we only needed 4 boats according to the board that meant we would need to pull 1 extra boat and a zodiac, good looking out. That's what I like about this place, we are one team. In fact the 14 boat still had a half, Baude and I had to run to the fuel farm prior to our op. .
The base NEX was open today which was good. Since it was a Fed. holiday I wasn't sure when I was packing so I brought some fried rice and rice pudding I had made for Sunday just in case. I forgot to bring T-shirts though, all I had in the locker was an Under Armor T-shirt which will do in a pinch. Unfortunately according to Navy Times Under Armor is U/A gear, and won't give me much comfort after the Temprature drops in the evening.
Another good thing was that Nobody touch the MRE that I left behind the Quarter Deck counter on Friday. It was Roast Beast which turned out pretty good. For dessert was ginger snap cookies, raisans, some powdered hot chocolate, mixed with hot water. I figure if one is going to eat Meals Ready to Eat they should get a little ghetto with some of the components, it's part of the experience.
It was a pretty productive day I think. I brought my Dyson and used it to clean the couch in the lounge/classroom are, it's been looking nasty for months. In fact the last time that garbage was cleaned was about the same time last year. I also used the Dyson to clean the carpet in the office and vacuum out my car. I also cleaned the Quarter Deck mat. Since we work in a garage, I scrubbed it in place and washed it with a hose. Then swabbed the deck underneath the mat. I was going to swab the deck before people got here but ran out of motivation. Besides, I haven't even started fucking up the evals that are due this week.
Vespo called while I was just finishing up with the Quarter Deck mat. He was going to try to convince McCoy to give him the day off on Monday so he can settle in to his new campground. He's been recently divorced and now that he's single he's got himself a fifth wheel trailer. My only concern is that he knows that he has an operation Monday. If he is looking to take a day off he's been in the Navy long enough to know that planning ahead keeps others from having to scramble to cover your slack. I mean he's a freakin' 1st class P.O. a Senior Middle Manager, it's unprofessional to cause others to scramble to cover holes.
