Went bike riding with Leona and one of her freinds from work. We rode the San Clemente Canyon. We first went east from regent to the 805 then after we returned back to the parking lot we headed west towards Rose Canyon. Didn't quite make to Rose because it was either go down a hill that we would have to come back on, or follow a track that leaves little margin for error. Since none of us liked any of these choices we headed back to the parking lot. All and all I would say we did a good hour of biking, if you subtracted the amount of time spent walking up hills to steep, wait for others to catch, or just stopped taking a breather.
Leona is getting better at riding. I think her freind, Kathy, has a lot to do with that. She was a bike nut when she was younger but when she had kids she had to quit. Of course Kathy husband didn't quit and now he's even more of a nut and she has to play catch up. Kathy is a great addition to our group though. She's helps to motivate Leona by going along the fire roads, taking hills, and so on.

The Combined Federal Campaign invited me to a luncheon, supposedly to thank me as well as other donator, and CFC coordinators for their hard work and sacrifice. I almost accepted this invitation, the only thing that kept me from doing so was that it wasn't a free lunch. Not only was it not free but to attend I was suppose to go in my monkey suit. I'm still perplexed, I just can't understand who would think that I would just love to spend $10.00 for the honor of dressing up in my Dress Blues so I can listen to some dignitary that I don't really, nor care to know waste 3 hour of my life telling how proud they are of my efforts. This has be something thought by some retired dependent of the officers club. Only somethone with their thinking that far from reality would even think this request was anything but ludicrous. If someone wants me to show to a party all they got to do is pay for the meal. If that persons got the tab then I'll dress in a tutu if the food is good enough. But do not tell someone that they're invited to dinner so you can thank them for theer hard work, and make them pay for their meal. If I have to pay for a portion of that meal then don't tell me how to dress.
What concerns me the most is what type of person would get suckered in to such a deal. Maybe it's a fleeter that wants to get out of work. Of course the luncheon is on a Friday so more than not the squid would probably be going on lib' anyway. Of course it could be one's whose ship is paying for the function to show off it's crew and therefore strongly insists that they attend. These are the only two reason I could think of that would a person would attend this flower club and not need psycological help.

While we were yapping a work today Roper related a story of a time when he was just a baby in the Navy, that means E-4 and below. He was in the aux space with an electrician monkeying with a switch box. So baby Roper went to point at something in box and his arm came within inches of a live 440 VAC wire. If he had actually touch the wire he could just chalk that up to being a dumb kid, but the electric charge arc over the inches between him and the wire causing all his muscles to clinch at the same time. It taught him to have a fond respect for electrical wires. Something that the Navy tries to instill in us at an early age. So we know by theory and try to maintain a healthy distance from live circuits, but it normally takes something like 440 volts to arc over a open air to make us truly understand
