NAVY JARGON
I found another source for navy jargon. It has alot of terms I would use on a day to day basis at sea, and some that I wish I had learned before now. I could think of alot of places where theese would have been useful.
I have yet to read the rest of the article, but thus far my favorite has got to be, "Shit Bomb." This is normally delivered at the end of a meeting when someone, normally the leader finishes with a task that will require alot of work in a small amount of time. A, "Drive by Shit Bomb," is when someone sticks there head in the door at the end of a meeting and drops one on the group. I can see this happening commonly in the wardroom but I have felt it's affects at the blue collar level.
Unfortunately this article does not cover,"Sand Crab." This is a derogatory term for a part time sailor, generally contractors. These people only get underway if a problem cannot be reproduced in port, People tend to frown Sea Gulls explode in port because of fire control radar. These people are never underway long enough to even get there Sea Legs(listed). Most tech's though, are retired Navy. However there are some that are from the ship yard and are on board only long enough to ensure the ship is not sinking while flooding the dry dock.
It happened again!
