2nd phase G-Bay Dive
In the old days, meaning first couple of years at this command, G-Bay meant Contour dives. Contour dives is the last phase of 2nd Phase. The divers have figured out how many pacing and affect of current on their dive. Now the divers use this new knowledge to go from Point A, Coronado bridge, to Point B, Boy Scout Pier. But this is not a countour, just another Pace line.
Though I wouldn't say that the weather was garbage it wasn't glass either. At least this Op wasn't a recon or some other Op that would require us to go on the surf side because the wind was kickin'.
Dybis sent out pic's of the jack knifed pick up. There is one pic that I wish he had deleted though. One of the pics shows that the chain that keeps the brakes from locking up when going in reverse was wrapped around a wood block instead of being attached to the vehicle like it was suppose to be. Though this would not have any bearing what so ever on the accident, it was still suppose to be connected and if the command got whiff of this than it would give them something to bitch at.
Coulter wants to fire Hovda as the transportation liason. He doesn't think ahead, isn't proactive. He knew that the tractor was going in for maintenance but didn't request a truck in a timely matter. In the end it meant when we sent the two trucks to go fetch the a pendleton we had no way of pulling or dropping boats if there was a problem. This seems to be a problem with Hovda, he doesn't seem to connect the dots and figure what needs to happen next so we don't have any hiccups.
On my way home last night after the freeway fiasco I started thinking about how blessed I was for not being married. Knapp was working with group 3 that night and he had been up watching the kids since 0600. His Op with the SDV will probably take him into the wee hour of the morning. Then at around 0430 he will have to drive his way to Hemet, where he lives. When I followed that little light around the bay on Saturday I was done in at the end of the Op.

yeah, today was so cool. It all started normal enough, I hung out around the shop trying to keep people busy with the amount of people we had. I sent three people to help go fetch boats from Pendleton. The SDV people brought their op down to Ballast point because the weather up north made the sea state a little outside of safe for a training op. Gip strapped down the 12 down for transfer to an outside entity for repairs. Then I headed out for the SDV brief for that day. I didn't have to, I mean my SDV Ops were last week, somehow I was introduced as the POC for these evolution so I figured that it would be better that they saw only one face than diffferent faces. Good idea, bad idea, whatever, When I returned to the building Coult and bruce were leaving, only person left was Koul. Right when I entered the phone rang. It was Dybis, he was one of the people sent to bring the trucks down from Pendleton, he was telling me that they had trashed the boat. In my minds eye I could see they forgot to strap down the boat when they left up north and now it had slipped off the trailer while they were on the freeway. Actually it was almost as fun. Suom was transiting through the S-turn past downtown when he lost control of the vehicle, easy ehough when the boat is heavier that the truck, and jackknifed on the 5. The truck ended up pointing the wrong way in the number one lane, and the trailer was halfway over the divider. Knapp later joked that we made second in the sig alerts for that day. Because of us people had to wait 45 minutes in bumper to bumper to get where their going. The 78 beat us out 7 minutes.
