Christian biologist fired for beliefs, suit says
I think the problem here is not which is “true” or not “true”. This scientist was willing to use the company’s methods to conduct his research; he was just unwilling to accept their views. The judge agreed with the company that his lack of faith in Darwinian evolution would make it difficult on the company because their end product was based upon Darwinian Theory.
What I see of this runs a little deeper. It appears that if you are in a field such as biology and retain your
How objective can an observation be if everyone must first believe the same thing before their view is acceptable.
Last time I checked science was not taught as a religion. I you needed was fact. Faith was something for theology courses. So what can we say about science if the hard question are ignored or swept under the table. The science I thought I was being taught in High School welcomed all comers, and disdained the control of knowledge as by the church during the time of Galileo. But there is a new “competitor” on the scene, those who do not believe in Darwinian evolution. These people may or may not be Christian. There are a lot of dissenters that are Christian, but there are also those that just do not believe the theory matches the facts. Darwin’s Black Box by Michael Behe points at places where this theory fails to match up to evidences in biochemistry. Richard Milton, covered several subjects from geology to the fossil record in his book. These voices should be added to the mix of what we know, and what is in question, but they aren’t. Just like the clergy of old, whatever agrees with the model and acceptable, whatever runs counter to the model while either in whole or in part, is disregarded and therefore there is no need for an answer. Whoever was guilty of bringing such a controversial point to light is also dismissed, forever to be deemed by a quack by the rest of the community. At least until a couple of generations later, tectonic movement was considered preposterous by the then “educated” society.
Yes lest I be accused of omitting the fact, I am a Christian, and yes I believe God created the heavens in the earth. What I don’t know I understand the knowledge of man is flawed and all the unimportant stuff will be reveilded when the curtain is pulled away. But, in religion faith isn’t a luxury, in science faith is not only not needed but unwelcome. When the Church took over scientific research what we knew of the earth went back by thousands of years, what was evident was pushed aside for something more comfortable to their world view, and now it is happening again.
It happened again!
